Download the Netscape Navigator.
Our site is the prototype of an R&D development effort. Therefore, it uses the most recent browser and JDK technology. Netscape Navigator does not support some of the most recent JDK technologies, such as the New Event Model, on a Mac OS.
We tested our web site on a Sun UltraSPARC 60 machine using Solaris 5.7 and Netscape Navigator 4.7, on a Mac OS9 version. JDK's New Event Model was not supported in that configuration. Netscape 4.X will not support the New Event Model, so you'll need to wait for version 5.0 which will support
a Java plug-in. In the interim, there is a beta release of a plugin for the Mac. However, this plugin neither supports the new Event Model nor inner classes. Also, there is no support available for this yet.
If you are using Netscape Navigator 4.08 or higher on a Sun Solaris 2.51 or higher, make sure that the following environment variables are set:
MOZILLA_HOME and CLASSPATH.
Set MOZILLA_HOME to the absolute path to the directory in which you installed Netscape,
and set the CLASSPATH to the absolute path to the java40.jar file that comes with
the Netscape browser installation.
Example:
if you use the ksh:
CLASSPATH=
We have successfully downloaded single files using HotJava for Solaris, version 1.02, but downloading multiple
files will not work, because the multiple downloading technology uses Netscape Object
Signing tools and thus requires some Netscape classes that the HotJava browser cannot
provide.
